Another free guided meditation MP3 is ready for you to enjoy…if you’re willing to spend just a few seconds letting me know what kind of meditations you like the most.
The point of this (incredibly short) survey is to make sure that you get exactly the kinds of meditation you most enjoy in the future. Your answers are anonymous and can’t be linked with you in any way, though I’m happy to publish the general results when the survey finishes, if you’re interested.
(Note: when the survey finishes, I’m going to take down this freebie as well, so if you want the meditation, please check out the survey ASAP).
You can find the survey at:
http://www.selfworks.net/member-meditation-survey?5
Thanks for your help, and enjoy your meditation!
UPDATE: This survey has now closed, but with some interesting results, which I’ll talk about in a future post. Many thanks to everyone who took part.

If you’re looking for free self improvement downloads to kick off the new year, there’s good news.
A *huge* giveaway of free products (well over 400) has begun and the site is now open for anyone to begin downloading any of the gifts that appeal to you. (Including our “Relaxing on the Beach” meditation, if you don’t have it already).
The gifts
I’ve only had chance to glance through the gifts briefly, and there are some gems (eg what looks to be a full and legal William James download, other relaxation audios, loads of ebook on topics like self-esteem and the like).
Having said that, there are quite a few titles that I would have said are aimed more at home-business people than personal development bods, so you may need to allow for this and search through until you grab something that appeals to you . Because some people seem to have got confused about the theme of the giveaway, parts are rather “salesy” too.
However, given that it’s free, you can’t beat the price, so if you’d like to pick up a load of freebies before this site shuts again (it’s purposely only open for a limited time, it seems) you can find it at:
www.selfimprovementgiveaway4.com
(As it’s actually quite hard for me as a contributor to access these freebies in the same way as you, I’d love your feedback as to how you find the giveaway to be.)
Have fun, and I hope you find at least one or two items that you like and which help speed you into 2010 in style.
Life Without Limits? April 3, 2009

Lots of personal development gurus talk about living, “a life without limits”. And if we’re lucky, many of us, in-between grocery shopping and paying the bills, get as far as thinking who or what we might be if that were so.
But few people ever talk about practical processes for lifting those limits. I happened upon just such a process the other day, whilst talking to a friend. I can’t vouch for whatever worldly success it may or may not give you-at least, not yet. But I can say with some confidence that it’s likely to give you a true feeling of liberation, which is portable, and surely the first step towards any other sort of freedom.
The process
1. Set aside a few minutes (five or so will be ample) during which you can concentrate by yourself and will not be disturbed.
2. Think about an area in you life where you know you’re naturally strong. It could be anything, from cooking to thinking, to being able to attract others into your life.
3. Because of that strength, it’s likely that others, in the past, may have become jealous of you, even if they’re not conscious of it themselves. And this includes your nearest and dearest. Therefore, as a fundamentally nice person, it’s also likely that you have limited your use of that strength (even if it is the basis of your life and career).
4. Conceptualise your strength. Imagine what it would look like if it were an actual part of your soul, spirit, psyche or personality. Perhaps it would be a fluffy cloud, a disc, a web: whatever springs to mind for you is the image you should choose.
5. Inspect the image in your mind. As you do so, think back to the times when you may have held back from unleashing the full force of this gift or strength. As you do so, you’ll see or feel something in relation to the image of your strength that represents it being held back. (In my case, it looked like black clips, but it could be anything for you. Again, just go with whatever feels right).
6. Use your mind to release whatever it is that’s holding the strength back, and be aware of what happens and how you feel as the energy behind your talent expands to fill its rightful space. Only you know where, and even if, it will stop. Let it come to rest wherever and however feels right.
7. As a test, think back to how you feel now about exercising the full extent of your strength or talent in “real life,” and be aware of how you feel.
8. Finally, remember that this is a real exercise with real effects, so please do everything you need to do afterwards to fix or “ground” yourself back in the everyday world. At the very least, drink some water and stamp your feet.
Hope this helps in a practical way to releaase any limits you no longer need. Please do leave any comments you have about how you found it as an experience.

Next time you’re feeling the need to take a few minutes’ break whilst at your PC, check out this resource:
Basically, it’s what looks like the beginnings of a self-help/personal growth community on the BBC website.
At the moment, some of it’s a bit basic, but I checked out the “Mindspa” zone, and it seemed to give a good, simple and fast-loading way of checking out your mood and state right now, (which is always handy if you’ve had a stressful day).
What is your impression of the zone, and is this the kind of thing you’d like to keep having alerts about on this blog?
Making Decisions More Easily June 16, 2008

Here’s a neat little tool I devised recently that seems really to be helping people who have decisions to make. Specifically, it helps you to get all of the thoughts (for and against) that may be swimming around in your head, onto paper, in an organised fashion. It’s a variation on the good old, “list of pros and cons” but a bit more detailed.
You can download it here:
http://www.selfworks.net/choicequadrant.pdf
NB. To make this even more effective, give a score out of 10 (with 10 being “very important to me”, and 0 “not at all important to me”) to each of the elements you place into each quadrant.
Otherwise, just allow yourself to take whatever you need from the data this helps you to gather.
This tool is very simple, but please don’t let that fool you: it really does work if you need to clarify your thinking about a choice. What you do with the results is up to you!
Hope this helps!

You might have read about learning styles in this blog before, as I’ve definitely linked to more that one free “learning styles” quiz over the years.
I’ve just discovered a new one, which, if my results are anything to go by (what, me, someone who enjoys journalling introspectively? Surely not!) are more accurate, more detailed, and better-recorded than any of the freebies so far in this area.
(Of course, the site has an upgrade option, but you can get lots of info from the free test).

The “Balance Wheel” is a famous and effective coaching tool that helps you to understand, in a visual format, just which areas of your life you might most like to address or change at any given point.
The good news is, there’s now an online version of this tool, which you can access here:

(Do try it-it’s free, and it works!)

Banabu Review: Banabu Works April 20, 2006

Yup, Banabu works! (If you’re really short of time of course, this may be all you need to know
.
Filling in the details though, let me go through all the reasons why I’m ecstatic and delighted to have stumbled across this new gem in the personal development world.
Pros:
1. First of all, it’s down-to-earth, to the point and often very funny. Each of these can be pretty rare in the holier-than-thou world of personal development. Put ‘em together and you’ve got dynamite.
2. It helps the reader (or listener, the choice is yours, which is refreshing!) to cement change into their lives as a simple, ongoing process, based on 11 principles. Goodbye “post-seminar slumps” and hello constant, simple, sustainable change. Yes, the very thing I bash on about in this blog again and again. Hurrah!
3. The points may be simple, but they’re profound, and very clearly the distillation of a lifetime of experience, rather than something a guru who has thrown something together to make a bit of cash. (Actually, just what a lifetime is a pretty good talking point in itself…How many people do you know who’ve made serious suicide attempts and then gone on to “make it” on all fronts during the rest of their lives? The author of these principles, Mike Kemski, truly has. )
4. The system uses many people’s sense of negativity and pessimism, and turns it into an advantage, and a starting point. instead of trying to “magic it all away”. This could be handy for all of us on our darker days, or if you have clients that consistently prefer to be Eeyore rather than Winnie the Pooh.
5. This will be equally accessible and useful to newcomers and seasoned personal development people. Newcomers will love the fact that they can apply simple, profound principles immediately and get results. And I defy anyone, whatever their expertise in personal development or the number of diplomas they hold, not to be impressed by Kemski’s lucid explanation of exactly why people resist change, and what they can do about it.
Cons
There aren’t many. If I were being picky, I could argue that the “fast start video” didn’t seem as “fast” to me as the text. But that could be a learning style thing on my part.
It’s possible too, that some may dismiss the principles as simple truths you’ve heard before. The point though, is that this person’s unique, heartfelt and experienced slant on those truths has actually synthesized them into something extremely powerful.
There’s also the potential disadvantage for some that the system does cost $47 at the time of writing this. But given that this truly is the result of a life’s work, it really is brilliant value-for-money ( a very rare thing for me to say, as you may know!). Plus, if paid resources just aren’t within your reach, the free report you can also get from the same site will get you thinking right away.
The best bit
But I saved the best bit til last. This actually worked, for me in practice. Having gone just the other day from feeling jaded and a bit battered, I have one project completed that I’ve been putting off for weeks, and (after weeks of perfectionist procrastination) a firm opening date and time for the download section of the site. Thursday April 27th, at 9pm GMT.
This stuff really works, and stands out from the crowd. Don’t take my word for it, please. Find out how to Build A New And Better Universe (hence the name!) for yourself, at www.banabu.com now. And yes, that’s a (very rare!) affiliate link. It’s that good.
More soon.
