Finally, the migration of Selfworks.Net to its new site is more-or-less complete.

Our focus is to give you the best, quickest and easiest solutions to everyday issues, in accessible fomats, from posts like this, to tipsheets, PDFs and MP3s. So you’ll get great strategies that you can just download and use, right away.

They’re holistic in the sense that we leave no stone unturned to bring you techniques and ideas that work, wherever they may be. And most of them go well beyond the usual neat “goal-setting” and such like of traditional personal development. (Though we still love goals, and outcomes…it’s just good to keep innovating).

Tell us what you need…Please!

From now on, it’ll also be much easier for you to tell us exactly what you need from this site. Please do leave a comment and tell us.

Finally, we’re also looking to blog readers like you to help us test new ideas. Watch this space for more details!

Have fun, and once again, please do keep letting us know hw this site can best help you solve your problems and make life easier.

Thanks and best wishes

If you’re not sure whether you’re in the kind of work or lifestyle that would inspire you the most, there’s a great free resource that could help.

Nick Williams (author of , “The Work You Were Born to Do”) has a great e-course on his site that runs through many of the key obstacles people face when finding their way into truly fulfilling work/lifestyles.

You’ll need to sign up for it, but it’s well worth it (particularly as the course gives you written, ausio and video content for free, and each section can be read consecutively, rather than your needing to wait for the next email.

You can find the course here:

http://www.inspired-entrepreneur.com/

N.B. I don’t necessarily agree with the idea, given nearer the end of the course, that entrepreneurship works for quite so many people as is suggested near the end of the course, but the initial stages in particular have some very useful content.

Hope this helps

One short flight for birds… June 12, 2007

It all began last week, when I was wandering along Charing Cross Road at about 11am. (Which is a busy London street, if you’re not from these parts). And generally, the street’s busy enough that the word “wander” is a bit of a misnomer…it was more like, “getting moved along in the crowd”.

Anyway, coming out of one shop, before re-joining the throng, I noticed a small, brown bird. it was huddled into a small corner, between the pavement and the shop facade. It looked at me, but didn’t move. Small wonder, because several of its tail-feathers were at right-angles to its body. Those feathers really didn’t look in any way promising, as flying apparatus goes.

So I went back into the shop, and asked the assistant,

“Do you know about the b-”

“The bird?” She finished the sentence for me. “Oh yes, we’ve already had dozens of people come and ask us about it. It hasn’t moved since we opened up this morning. We think it has a broken wing. There’s not much we can do at the moment, except keep an eye on it.”

Feeling rather sad about it, I left the shop.

Re-emerging, I noticed that the bird had now been given some crumbs by someone.

And then, right before my eyes, the bird stared into space intently, hopped around, and flew away. Not high, and not fast, but it flew.

So…

So, I guess I’m just inviting you to take away something uplifting from this. For one thing, even in the rush and the push, the story shows that lots and lots of people still care enough to stop and enquire about a small, brown bird.

And, even better, if you leave a piece of nature to rest and recover in it’s own way, it seems that almost nothing is a lost cause.

That little brown ball of feathers made one short flight for birds, and one giant, inspiring example for mankind.

Someone else’s post caught my eye today. I’m not sure from where it originated (and the blog I found it on doesn’t normally specialise in personal development). But please read it anyway, because it’s inspring, uplifting, and illustrates a profound principle, simply and beautifully.

Here’s the link:

If *this* can change March 26, 2007

Just a quick thought.

It seems, from the news reports, as if two former sworn enemies in Northern Ireland (Ian Paisley and Gerry Adams) have agreed to work together there.

If these two can lay aside their differences in such a spectacular way, how many of us can find it in ourselves to sweep away our own conflicts (whether internal or external) and start afresh?

It’s easy to concentrate on what still remains to be healed in the world. Let’s all just take this as an inspiring example of exactly what people can achieve, given enough focus, patience, determination and goodwill.
